Acre Wood Academys improvement journey well underway

Acre Wood Academy’s improvement journey well underway

The hard work of leaders and staff at Acre Wood Academy has been commended in a Quality Assurance report by East Sussex County Council.

Having joined LSEAT in June 2025, the school is on a journey of rapid improvement. The QA monitoring visit from ESCC this term included pupil voice discussions, learning walks and visits to lessons. Social times were also observed and meeting held with leaders regarding curriculum, assessment, behaviour and attendance.

The school’s positive culture was highlighted, especially its “focus on supporting pupils’ wellbeing, behaviour and engagement.” This was reflected in calm classrooms, with strong relationships between staff and pupils. The young people themselves shared that they enjoy school.
Safeguarding was flagged as now being a strength. It was noted that systems are in place to ensure pupils receive the help they need in a timely way. And importantly, staff confidence has increased, with colleagues feeling assured that concerns are handled “fairly and in line with statutory guidance.”

While curriculum development is still embedding, there are clear signs of progress, particularly in preparing pupils for adulthood through employability and life skills opportunities.

This report is a fantastic reflection of the continued dedication of leaders and staff at Acre Wood. While there is still work to do, strong foundations are now in place for continued improvement – to ensure that every child and young person has the support they need to flourish and achieve their full potential.

Well done to all everyone at AWA and keep up the good work!
